PSAE's Upcoming Project will focus to Improve Corporate Social and Environmental Performances of Agro-based Industries in the Countryside. by? Enhancing energy efficiency, conservation, and environmental management, adaption of cleaner production and pollution prevention technologies, and become socially responsive to the needs of the community as these industries perform their core economic business of rice milling and livestock production.

Develop baseline information on the operation of agro-based industries, i.e. rice milling, livestock (poultry and swine) farming, that both affect their social and environmental performances through surveys and eco-mapping;
*
Develop a Guidebook on ? Energy and environmental management, cleaner production and pollution prevention to improve their corporate and social environmental performances; and
*
Increase the level of awareness of the industries on corporate social and environmental responsibility and accountability through seminar-trainings and sustainability investment forums.
The upcoming event this April 2006 will give provision to the units and members to further look onto the environmental aspect of each task to comply with both engineerig & environmental standards.
Each project is relevant to the following objectives of the programme:
* Supporting the on-going reform and modernization and the system of corporate governance in the Philippines by equipping the neglected agro-based industries, which serve as backbone of countryside development, cope up with issues other than their own economic business in the context of sustainable development that include social and environmental growth.
* The project will take cognizance of EU’s strategic role in Kyoto Protocol advocacy on climate change, i.e. reducing greenhouse gas emissions using the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
* Facilitating the interaction of European and Filipino stakeholders or operators in business in the agro-based industries dealing with sustainability in the rice milling and livestock poultry and swine sectors through showcased European models or example of best practices.
* Providing ways for quick and efficient responses to various needs of the agro-based industries by equipping them on how manage their social and environmental responsibilities leading to self regulations and development beyond governmental requirements.
* (b)relevance of the action to the priorities of the programme
* The project will mainly satisfy programme priority 2 on corporate governance as corporate and social responsibilities, including accountabilities, of agro-based industries will be addressed. Through what?
* The project will also satisfy partially priority 3 and 4 as the project will provide guidebooks and GIS-based information, education, and communication materials for other stakeholders such as the LGUs in project planning and implementation, and enhanced their regulatory functions.
* Finally, programme priority 1 will partially be addressed by the project as sustainability investment forum(s) will be held to showcase EU best practices and technologies in order to improve corporate governance of agro-based industries particularly the rice milling and livestock production of poultry and swine. Investment forum will stimulate investment in non-metropolitan areas.

Detailed description of activities
Task I.
Initial Social and Environmental Review (ISER)
The ISER activity provides a snapshot of the industry’s current social and environmental performances. This is performed by collecting data on the industry’s social and environmental impacts and the existing management structures that deal the impacts. The result provides a solid basis for developing an inventory of social and environmental impacts and a comprehensive program of mitigating these impacts.

Task II.
Development of Guidebook on Energy & Environmental Management, Cleaner Production and Pollution Prevention
* Task 2.1 Identification of sustainability and environmental tools
* Task 2.2 Identification of social and environmental indicators to assess performances
Task III. Identification/Modelling of feasible resource recovery systems through scanned European technologies
* Task 3.1 Selection of appropriate and feasible resource recovery systems particularly in resource recovery systems, e.g. biomass-to-energy systems.
Task IV. Conduct of seminar-trainings on corporate social and environmental responsibility & accountability
* Task 4.1 Selection of venue for the seminar for both industries
* Task 4.2 Organization and conduct of seminar-trainings on “Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility and Accountability”
Task V. Conduct of sustainability investment forums, promotion of viable projects to potential investors and presentation of overall results
* Task 5.1 Preparation of investment brief for each viable project
* Task 5.2 Identification of key stakeholders to the investment forum
* Task 5.3 Organization and conduct of investment forum and presentation of overall results
